The brief for this project was to create an area for outdoor dining and entertainment that linked the kitchen to the landscape and allowed guests to mingle between the kitchen and garden spaces.
The villa itself is of historic and local importance and the landscape design and construction needed to respond accordingly.
Through the landscape design and consultation process the decision was made to increase the size of the paved courtyard by excavating back into the sloping section. Solid masonry walls with an off white render were used to wrap around the courtyard and form a space that feels comfortable and sheltered. The wall location was built so the paving modules required no cutting.
The planting response incorporated structured topiary plants such as Buxus borders and standard Viburnum with a mix of loosely arranged flowering plants.
