Garden Preparation is one of the most overlooked aspects of a successful gardening project.
Part of the issue is Auckland’s clay soils and the other issue is that it’s often an area of expense that’s not fully appreciated or valued till further down the track. The difference between a well-prepared garden and one that had minimal attention is staggering.
We all understand plants require maintenance and care to flourish and thrive but sadly if the soil conditions that they’re planted in aren’t adequate there’s no amount of fertiliser and classical music that’ll help them reach their potential. Invest now and enjoy the birdsong later!
Tip: Raise beds and mound in plenty of garden mix. Avoid planting directly into clay. Install drainage in areas that aren’t free draining and apply Gypsum soil conditioner.
